Last night during consideration of H.R. 5972, The Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2013 (T-HUD), the House of Representatives adopted amendment #1356 which prohibits the use of any appropriated funds from being used to comply with the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU-ETS). Congressman Cravaack (R-MN) led this bipartisan effort and ALPA thanks Rep. Cravaack, a former Northwest Airlines pilots and ALPA member, for his leadership. The measure was adopted by an overwhelmingly bipartisan voice vote with supporting statements offered on the floor by members from both parties. ALPA will continue to raise awareness of the need to stop the EU-ETS and maintain our focus on a global solution at ICAO.
