DOT Concerned About NextGen Progress

NextGen will improve the air traffic control and aviation systems and ultimately the bottom line for airlines by improving safety, increasing capacity, and reducing fuel costs.  ALPA has advocated for the advancement of NextGen, and successfully fought for the passage of the FAA bill earlier this year which allowed the FAA to plan and move forward with NextGen implementation.  We continue to promote strong funding levels for NextGen implementation and will work with the FAA to ensure progress continues on this critical initiative.

DoT Still Concerned About NextGen Progress

The FAA still has work to do in implementing changes to its NextGen air traffic management program, according to a recent report by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Inspector General. “While the FAA quickly incorporated the [IG] task force’s recommendations into its NextGen strategic plans and budgets, its efforts are delayed in key areas, including its critical metroplex initiative,” concluded the report.
