Australian Government to link Emissions Trading System with EU

Yesterday, the Australian Government and the European Union agreed on a pathway to link their respective emissions trading systems.  In addition to a carbon tax on stationary sources, this linkage will include the emissions from aircraft.  Our concern with a patchwork system of emissions reduction plans such as this is that it will lead to multiple taxes being levied on our employers while simultaneously creating an accounting nightmare.  ALPA, along with our employers, have long supported a global system developed through the International Civil Aviation Organization.  For further information on this new agreement, please follow the link:  http://europa.eu/rapid/pressReleasesAction.do?reference=IP/12/916&format=HTML&aged=0&language=IS&guiLanguage=fr
